The event lasted three days and brought together researchers from Europe, Asia, and Latin America. With the goal of creating new collaborative ties and sharing research advancements in visible light communication, the South American Conference on Visible Light Communication (SACVLC) 2023<\/strong> was held from November 8 to 10. The event was organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering in collaboration with other universities in the country<\/strong>, taking place at the Center for Postgraduate Studies and Education (CEPEC) of the University of Santiago de Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would like to express our deep gratitude to FONDEF for their generous support in organizing the closing event of the FONDEF ID21I10191 project. This internationally significant event succeeded in bringing together an unprecedented number of international experts specialized in hybrid communications applied to underground mining.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The South American Conference on Visible Light Communication (SACVLC) is an international technical event focused on communication technologies<\/strong> such as Free Space Optical Wireless Communications (FSOWC). The conference brings together researchers, academics, professionals, and students from all over the world working in this field to discuss the latest advances and developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context, on November 8, 9, and 10, Usach hosted SACVLC 2023, welcoming researchers from Europe, Asia, and Latin America<\/strong> to present on topics such as hybrid wireless optical communication systems; optical camera communications; wireless communication in aquatic environments; positioning, advances, and challenges of visible light; among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Dr. Ismael Soto, academic of the DIE and organizer of SACVLC 2023, the importance of this event lies in its evolution, as it began as a colloquium and was one of the pioneers in addressing these technologies on the continent.<\/strong> \u201cThis relationship has been growing more and more each day. Now we are a conference and have managed to have many people from different countries visit us on this occasion,\u201d said the academic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was organized by the Local Committee formed by the University of Santiago de Chile, the Metropolitan Technological University, Andr\u00e9s Bello University, the University of Chile, and Diego Portales University<\/strong>. Additionally, the Steering Committee, the International Advisory Committee, and the International Technical Committee of SACVLC were also involved in the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the event was attended by the Chief of the Division of the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Carolina Lagos, who highlighted the country’s participation in such events, describing international collaboration and the development of telecommunications as a plus for society.<\/strong> \u201cIt is fundamental that we as a country integrate into the world and deepen those ties with other countries to create a more comprehensive system globally. That is, communications, information, research, and technologies should be transparent for all countries,\u201d concluded Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the day, the participation, collaboration, and career of the main speakers and organizers were recognized with the awarding of a medal.<\/strong> Among those who received them are Nicolas Krommenacker<\/strong>, from the Centre de Recherche en Automatique de Nancy (CRAN), France; Stanislav Zv\u00e1novec<\/strong>, from the Czech Technical University, Czech Republic; Jaime Anguita<\/strong>, from the University of the Andes; Miguel Guti\u00e9rrez Gait\u00e1n<\/strong>, from Andr\u00e9s Bello University; Carlos A. Guti\u00e9rrez<\/strong>, from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; Jair Lima Silva<\/strong>, from the Federal University of Espirito Santo, Brazil; Ismael Soto, from the Dept. of Electrical Engineering of the University of Santiago; Muhammed Ijaz<\/strong>, from Manchester Metropolitan University, and Zabih Ghassemlooy<\/strong>, from Northumbria University, both institutions from the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zabih Ghassemlooy, also the president of the SACVLC Steering Committee<\/strong>, valued the opportunity to exchange personal, academic, and scientific experiences among the various attendees of different ages and nationalities. \u201cOur job as academics is to motivate the younger generation. Our job is to ensure that they have sufficient resources and facilities and that they can use them to improve their career, their understanding, their way of seeing the world, and the way they question things, which is essential,<\/strong>\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
