IN MEMORY OF OUR COLLEAGUE JORGE PEZOA NÚÑEZ

Jorge Pezoa Núñez (R.I.P.) distinguished himself as a scholar and investigator within the University of Concepción’s Faculty of Engineering. After completing his undergraduate studies in civil electronic engineering, he enrolled in the UdeC’s master’s programme in electrical engineering. Additionally, he earned a doctorate in the same subject from the University of New Mexico in the United States as a result of his academic pursuits.

Following the completion of his postgraduate studies, he spent the next 19 years instructing at the Faculty of Engineering, where he presided over the Civil Engineering in Telecommunications programme from 2014 to 2016. During that time, he also played a founding member of the programme. Furthermore, from 2016 to 2020, he held the position of deputy director of the Electrical Engineering Department at DIE.

His colleagues and students comment on his inquisitiveness, affable nature, and great sense of humour, in addition to his renown for professionalism and academic excellence. He consistently distinguished himself as an educator by inspiring and motivating his pupils, thereby guiding them to accomplish feats that they had previously deemed unattainable. His contributions were and remain esteemed and acknowledged by successive cohorts of engineers who were mentored by him or followed in his footsteps.

They have mastered their subjects and are now participating in significant implementations. He collaborated on a large number of multidisciplinary projects as a leader and visionary researcher, where he consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to connect with academicians from various fields and offer innovative solutions on a regional, national, and international scale.

His area of expertise encompassed vision-based sensors, multidimensional signal processing, and communications network resilience. In recent years, he has once again distinguished himself through his leadership in forging significant international alliances, including the successful establishment of the 5G campus in Concepción.
